Providing Educational Opportunities To Empower Masailand Girls and Women in Kenya

01 May

MWEEP and Kitsap Great Give Partner for 3rd Year

Maasai Women’s Education and Empowerment Program (MWEEP) is very excited about our third straight year of participation in the upcoming Kitsap Great Give!  This is a once a year, 24 hour, on-line only opportunity for friends of MWEEP and other Kitsap County non-profits to donate to their favorite 501(C)3 organization.  This year it will be on May 3rd beginning at 12:01 a.m. and ending at 11:59 p.m.

Sponsored by the Kitsap Community Foundation, funds donated through Great Give are especially beneficial for small non-profits like MWEEP because donations will be partially matched by generous businesses and other sponsors in our community.

Since 2007, MWEEP has made it their mission to help educate Maasai girls and women near the town of Ngong, Kenya,  MWEEP offers families a different opportunity for their daughters.  Rather than early marriage and pregnancy for girls as young as 12-14, girls can go to secondary school,  Many girls then seek higher education after graduation that leads to jobs and a way out of poverty.

For the past nine years MWEEP USA and MWEEP Kenya have provided much needed funding for education for more than 200 girls in secondary school and more than 60 young women in post-secondary education.

Because MWEEP USA has all unpaid volunteers on the board of directors and few overhead expenses, more than 90% of the funds raised every year always go directly to our mission.

Thank you from MWEEP and from all the deserving young women and girls in Kenya who will have an opportunity for an education and a better life.
